Auto manufacturer Fiat India Automobiles is currently weighing up the possibility of setting up a fully comprehensive R&D centre along with its joint venture partner Tata Motors.
At present, it has developed a small R&D unit at its plant at Ranjangaon. This unit does the testing for current models.
Citing the current scenario, Mr. Rajeev Kapoor, president and CEO of Fiat automobiles said that Fiat is interested in brining more complex work in the R&D field unlike the current pattern of consulting western centres for R&D.
He said that current scenario is that of know-how and Fiat wants this to shift distinctively to know-why. Fiat is looking at staff strength of around 150 people at this R&D centre.
