Toyota intends to develop a small all-electric car, which it intends to put on sales early next decade. President of Toyota Motors Katsuaki Watanabe made this announcement.

This is the first suggestion that Toyota plans to reenter the arena which it experimented with a few years ago.

Though Toyota is the industry leader in gas-electric hybrids, people who advocate electric vehicles grumble that Toyota should get back at its efforts in building an all electric vehicle.

Other automobile manufacturers such as Nissan and Mistubishi have also announced that they have plans for manufacturing electric vehicles.

Though Toyota has not released any details of its proposed electric car, a spokesman said that they would be made available for the general public. 

However, early versions of Toyota’s plug in hybrid, which will be based of the successful hybrid Prius, will be made available only to fleet operators like corporations and municipalities.
