Tata Motor Ltd, the automobile giant plans to introduce the Smaller Ace Variant to make its presence in the market for cargo carriers with three wheels. The new variant would be a part of the light commercial vehicle segment, Ace.

An official source mentioned that the four-wheeler with a payload capacity of 0.5 tonne is expected to be launched by September 2009 and will be called Penguin. Tata Spokesperson refused to comment however saying via email that presently the company is working on a number of innovative projects.

The yet to be launched model is a part of Tata Motors’ promise at the launch of Ace to introduce various kinds of models that can cater to the passenger and goods carrier segment using the Ace platform. The new offering from Tata Motors, which is likely to be positioned below the Ace, will likely be priced at Rs125,000- 130,000,.

It is to be mentioned here that in fiscal 2008, it launched the Magic and the Winger, both passenger carriers, of the same platform.
