In an attempt to push sales, auto giants like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Hyundai India have lined up launches for the next few months hoping to generate good volumes.

Maruti’s A Star is slated for launch this month and is likely to enhance sales for Maruti which is apparently the worst affected by the slump. The sales growth slowed down to less than 3 per cent in April-October. Being a strategic global model, A Star is bound to enhance sales. Though Hyundai’s i10 has stolen the show in the small car segment the A Star is expected to up sales by 4,000 to 5,000 units a month.

The country’s largest sports utility vehicle maker M&M, will be launching the Xylo (formerly Ingenio), a multi-purpose vehicle, after Scorpio in the second week of December. 

The company will produce over 2,000 Xylos a month, which accounts for over 20 per cent of its monthly sales of multi utility vehicles. Hyundai and Fiat, have enjoyed double-digit growth so far this year, and will launch one new product each in December and January, the i20 and Linea Sedan respectively.

The current month is not expected to post significant growth for the car industry as leading financiers like ICICI, HDFC, Kotak and Axis have not reduced lending rates for auto loans. Besides, many buyers have either cancelled bookings or postponed purchase till next year.

The car industry is expected to grow at 5 to 6 per cent this year, while last year around the same time it was at 12 per cent.
