After the inauguration of the sixth annual Bangalore Book Festival, at the Palace Grounds, Dr. Acharya said that medical and engineering books were not available in the country decades ago. He expressed his pleasure over a large number of Kannada book stalls in the 10-day annual book exhibition.
He presented a cheque of Rs. 3.25 lakh to the organizers of the BBF and said that Government was extending the financial assistance, complying with the tradition set by the former Chairman of the Kannada Book Authority S.G. Siddaramaiah.
Other dignitaries present at the event were Dalit poet Siddalingaiah and Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority and MLC Mukhyamantri Chandru. Besides the books on display, cultural programs ranging from light music to folk dance programs will be organized. There will be book-reading sessions held daily.
Bangalore Book Festival 2008 promises to attract more than three lakh people. The festival will be held till November 23.
