Maruti R&D centre to develop multiple fuel options for all cars

The R&D centre at Maruti is developing a multiple fuel option for all cars. This decision came in the wake of slowdown in automotive sector and consequent pressure on sales volumes. The realignment would help clear the backlog of waitlist for Swift and Dzire.

There are 600 engineers at Maruti and the company is planning to add 150 more by March 2009. The plan is to have 1,000 engineers by 2010.The new ‘A-Star’ has resulted from continuous research and is bound to be a hit. Mr I.V. Rao Managing Executive Officer said that Maruti would not come up with a small car, like the ‘Tata Nano’. He said that India's start-stop traffic is unique and a 600 cc car would not be apt for the same.

He also mentioned that the R&D team Maruti at has been growing over the last 8 years. The all new ‘A Star’ is bound to make waves in the automobile market. The company plans to sell about 50,000 A-Star cars during the year. It is also confident that A Star will not overshadow the other Maruti products.
