Mobile handset prices to escalate very soon

Owing to exchange rate fluctuations, the mobile prices are going to rise. It is reported that Nokia has already increased prices of its base models by around 3-4 per cent and other manufacturers are likely to follow suit.

HTC a manufacturer of premium handsets will increase prices by 5-10 per cent for its existing models. Import costs are going up as there has been a 25 per cent increase in the value of dollar vis a vis rupee.

Spice Mobiles are also increasing handset prices by 10-15 per cent. European handset major Meridian Mobile, sells under the brand name Fly. It recalibrates prices every month depending on the market conditions. However with increasing competition they have decided to selectively reduce prices. The price reduction will be much lower at 6 percent as against the 10 percent decided earlier.
