Nokia to release Symbian TD-SCDMA phone

Nokia Reaffirms its Commitment to launch TD-SCDMA standard mobile phones. TD-SCDMA is a 3G mobile standard and is an acronym for Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access. Nokia now targets to launch TD-SCDMA phones before 2009 end. It is intended for Chinese users and it is also planning to perk up the TD-SCDMA development in china.

The global foremost smartphone platform Symbian has over four million developers. The S60 on Symbian OS is attuned with S60-based TD-SCDMA device providing a delighting experience to the TD-SDMA users in china. With the initiative to move towards TD-SCDMA technology, Nokia coalesces with Symbian making it valuable.

By implementing TD-SCDMA with S60, it becomes the first to have S60 positioned on another radio interface. It emphasis on operating with different SIM card architecture and signaling power. Also, over 10000 third-party "S60 on Symbian OS" applications are accessible. The earlier effort to release the CDMA versin failed to see the light of the day due to some Qualcomm/Nokia IP hassles.

All eyes are now on Nokia especially its assurance to see the TD-SCDMA with S60 go all the way. If it is perfect, then the use of S60 in china will become an inevitable one. TD-SCDMA is focused on 3G connectivity in china with the intention to license Chinese patents. Siemens and Chinese scientists were the first to put forth ideas in the development of this technology.

Apart from supporting TD-SCDMA, Nokia is also planning to introduce mobile phone with Symbian S60 in the coming year.
