Indians say a strong ‘hello’ to Mobile…

The fall of economy has not shattered nor the global inconsistency of economy saddened the Indians. Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst could come out with the view that the Indians are quite undisturbed over the setback in the economy for compromising on the mobile phones. Every phase of a period receives more number of new subscribers and the trend indicates that the impact of fallen economy has posed no problem for the Indians.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority is still more comprehensive and reliable to disclose the figures of subscribers – addition of 10.42 million subscribers in October 2008 which is up from 10.07 in the previous month.

The prospective increase in this subscription is mainly due to the demand from rural sector. Operators, on their part, are jettisoning the subscribers even for a to-be launched services. The shortcoming is coming under the way of average revenue per user (ARPU), due to the latest schemes announced by the operators and reduced purchase power of the new buyers.

While the mobile connection has become a part and parcel of the routine life for the Indians, their desire to go in for replacement of handsets is a wonderful aspect. This replacement approach of the Indian mobile users has given a new phenomenon and made the mobile market fluctuate – the initial figure (45% handsets) promised a slender increase (to 50%) but quite dramatically it has reversed (to 40%).

The users are cautious and contented that they no longer like to invest more money for the replacement handsets and want to compromise on the economy aspect. If this is the condition for the mobile connection and mobile market, there are no hopeful aberrations in the fixed / landline connections.

TRAI could release the figures of the fixed line Indians – 38.35 million in September has come down to 38.22 million in October 2008. BSNL, once the monopolist telephone sector, is now facing a tough task with great number of fixed lines from it going for surrender or decline for new connection. The company now faced a decline of 30 million fixed subscribers in October 2008.

The lone survivor and winner in this race is Bharti Airtel, which could accumulate its subscriber rate with 2.7 million in October 2008 thereby increasing its strength to 80.2 million. With facts about other operators not disclosed by the TRAI, we can presume that the Indian subscribers are fixing in their minds and hands to a particular set of ideals and premonitions. The operators and the licensees shall search for new ventures, for Necessity is the Mother of Invention. The Indians feel and execute the necessity and the mobile world needs to answer their Call!
