Spark, the latest small car from General Motor’s Chevrolet would be launched globally in March 2009. However, it would be rolled out in the Indian Market only by 2010-11.

It is to be mentioned here that the new Spark would not replace the Chevy Spark that is currently rolled out in India from its Talegaon plant in Maharashtra.

This yet to be named Spark, is designed as a competition to other premium super-hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20, Tata Indica Vista, Maruti Swift and Skoda Fabia.

The new Chevy Spark has been developed by GM Europe and will first go into production in Korea, by this year-end. The car will first go on sale in Europe, by early 2010, and will later be introduced in other markets, including the US and India, sometime in 2011.

Troy Clarke, president of GM North America informed that the Chevrolet Spark will bring great style, roominess, freshness and versatility to the segment of extremely fuel-efficient small cars.
