The Handycam XR-series is Sony’s latest range of HDD - HD camcorder models that features. Integrating new “Exmor R” CMOS Sensor and BIONZ image processor technologies, ultimately light sensitivity is doubled  and the XR-series produces images of exceptionally high resolution with crisp, clear detail, even when shooting in low light environments.

With the new Highlight Playback feature, the camcorder can also automatically extract key highlight scenes recorded (based on features used such as Face Detection, Smile Shutter and Dual Recording). To facilitate sharing, the XR-series’ flexible HYBRID design allows users to conveniently choose to record movies on their preferred media – either HDD or Memory Stick. This eliminates the hassle of having to use a computer to transfer movies and photos between media.

Capturing subjects’ facial expressions while filming a piano recital or a soccer match is made easy with high-magnification zoom lens of up to 60x, a key feature in the Handycam SR-series of HDD camcorders. Supported by a large storage capacity of up to 80GB, users can enjoy lengthy shooting as the SR-series allows for up to 61 hours of recording time. Complementing this feature is the 2.7(6.9cm) (measured diagonally) wide LCD touch panel screens.

Primarily a HDD camcorder, the flexible HYBRID design allows for direct movie recording to Memory Stick. In addition, the DCR-SR87 and DCR-SR67 feature Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator and a built-in zoom microphone, enabling realistic and clear surround sound during playback.

Furthermore, when the Handycam is connected to the Sony’s new DVDirect Express DVD writer, model VRD-P1; users can effortlessly transfer home videos directly to DVD without a computer.  By attaching the DVDirect Express via its built-in USB cable to compatible Handycam camcorders, it can transfer video to DVD for playback on most home DVD players with just a touch of a button.

The new DCR-DVD650 model offer high performance imaging optics for great-looking movies and photos using powerful Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses, 60X optical zoom, and 1/8 800K-pixel CCD imagers. Ideal for recording family moments, the models include 60X optical zoom to capture detailed shots even from far away.

Flexible recording options make it easy to store content on several types of media, so you will never worry about running out of space. The DCR-DVD650 camcorder features hybrid recording on 3.0 (7.6cm) DVD discs and Memory Stick PRO Duo media cards.

The slim standard-definition flash memory Handycam SX-series is fashioned on portability and style. The compact DCR-SX series allows direct movie recording on either its internal memory or Memory Stick, with a maximum recording time of approximately 11 hours . While the DCR-SX60 represents the top of the line standard definition flash memory camcorder with an 16GB embedded flash memory capacity, DCR-SX40 has smaller capacities of 4GB. Taking advantage of the compact nature, the SX series is equipped with a 60x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens, Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and a 2.7 (6.9 cm) touch panel LCD,

The Sony DCR-SX40 and SX60 has the ability to connect the camcorder to Sony's DVDirect Express burner, for a one-touch disc burn for easy memory archival and playback.
