Italian two-wheeler parts maker Verlicchi told on Friday that it has plans to make an India foray with the formation of a JV with Gurgaon-based components supplier Hema Group.
Verlicchi-Hema Automotive Co will be 50:50 joint venture and will set up its first facility at Hosur near Bangalore at an investment of Rs 17 crore. Verlicchi Group managing director Alessandro Verlicchi said "Verlicchi wanted to enlarge its footprint across the world, India is a booming country, but it produces only 70 lakh motorcycles annually compared with 2.5 crore in China. So it has a great potential."
Hema Engineering Industries Group managing director Chandresh Jajoo said "Our main focus will be to produce frames but we will also manufacturer exhaust system, rear forks, fuel tanks and other fabricated parts."
Verlicchi has three manufacturing facilities in Spain, Italy and the US, with clients like BMW, Harley Davidson, Ducati and Honda. Hema Group produces forks, nipples and rear forks, exhaust systems and supply these to Hero Honda, TVS, Yamaha and Royal Enfield among others.
