Leading consumer electronics majors like Samsung, LG, Panasonic and TCL are planning to introduce LED TV within the next few months in India.
The LED TVs are known for using low electricity, contain no mercury and are made of environment friendly products. The introduction of LED TVs will create even more excitement in the fast growing, high-end technology TV market in India.
LED TVs are based on a new technology which uses LED (light emitting diodes) in the panels as against LCD TVs, which uses normal liquid crystal display technology. It is however more expensive by about 30-40 per cent than LCD TVs, which are priced between Rs 70,000 and Rs 3.99 lakh.
However, consumer durable makers are not disclosing pricing of LED TVs but according to industry experts, LED TV are likely to be priced around 30-40 per cent higher than LCD and would further expand the market for flat panel display products.
It is to be mentioned here that the total market of LCD and flat screen television sets is around seven lakh units per annum and is set to double in the next few years.
