Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML), the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer for eight consecutive years, today reported an unprecedented sales of 3,70,575 units for the month of April’09, a strong 29.5 per cent growth over April’08. Hero Honda had sold 2,86,252 two-wheelers in April last year.
With this, the company carries forward its trail-blazing sales performance in the new financial year 2009-10, even as the domestic two-wheeler industry continues to reel under high interest rates, credit squeeze and overall recessionary trends.
Hero Honda’s April growth comes close on the heels of a robust financial performance of the company in the just concluded FY’09. Riding on an industry-beating 12 per cent growth in sales volumes in FY’09, Hero Honda’s total turnover (Net sales & Other Operating income) grew to Rs 12356.88 crores, a growth of 19.22 per cent over Rs 10364.54 crores recorded over the last fiscal. The company’s EBIDTA margin was at 14.16 per cent in the fiscal.
Mr. Anil Dua, Sr. Vice President, (Marketing & Sales), Hero Honda Motors Ltd said, “Our continuing sales performance once again underscores the success of our business model. We continue to lead the unit volume growth in the industry despite the adverse and challenging environment. This growth has been driven by our customer-focused approach and our strong brands. We are hopeful of continuing on this growth trajectory in the coming months.”
The new models - including variants and refreshes - that Hero Honda launched in FY‘09 have been driving volumes for the company. With the new all-muscle and macho Hunk, and the sporty and stylish new CBZ X-treme, Hero Honda continues to steadily grow its presence in the premium segment.
Other new launches such as the Passion Pro Power Start, new Splendor NXG, and refreshes of successful models including the new Pleasure, have also been driving volumes in their respective segments.
