The sun is up in the sky and what better way to cool your soul than to create an ambience which is cool. Home solution brands have come up with ideas for this. The Great Eastern Home, a Mumbai based home and interiors boutique has an array of Kilims, which work on the idea of keeping the floor and room temperature stable.
 
These Kilims are thin rugs made if cotton and wool which effect the temperature of the room in a positive way. They are priced at Rs 45,000 onwards and can be placed anywhere depending on the home decor. They not only keep the room cool but also beautify the decor.

Furnishings, towels and other accessories are best when they are in floral patterns. Linens in soft material also enhance the soothing effect. EVOK - the home fashion mega store’s spring summer collection of furniture, furnishings and bath accessories has a good collection to beat the summer heat.

Priced between Rs 1,200 and Rs 3,000, the floral prints and light shades in furnishings and towels are apt for summer. D K Jairath, COO, Hindware Home Retail which owns home furnishing brand EVOK, says that furnishings, curtains and linens in natural colors such as green, blue and yellow give a feeling of cool atmosphere in the house as they absorb minimum heat and energy.

He added “products and accessories with floral effect offer a sense of serenity. In summer, people prefer to buy furnishings made of cotton as they are light and user-friendly material and it also keeps the surroundings cool. Wooden and bamboo shoot cane can be used as curtains for doors and windows as they are eco-friendly material; it works as a bad conductor of heat. It cuts the heat effectively and gives effective ventilation”.

An acknowledged way of cooling a room is to change its color scheme and add cool colors like calming shades of blue, green or lilac. The latest trend is to use colored accessories in transparent or translucent materials such as glass or crystal to offer a breezy accent to a room.

Meenakshi Salve, designer and owner, Ame De Verre, a luxury boutique of art decorative, feels that a leading global trend in the spring-summer home decor collection has been the use of patterns inspired from nature. “Every color has unique properties on the basis of which it can be classified into warm, cool or a neutral category. Whether it is in the form of a window, a door, a centre table piece or a lamp the correct usage of color and patterns can create a cooling effect.”

Rooftop gardens or potted plants on the rooftop are yet another cooling idea. These gardens can be created either with astro-turf or extra RCC floors can be added. Various species of plants can be used. So despite the blazing sun outside, you can still come back to a cool haven.
