Renowned fiction writer Jeffrey Archer is in India for his 'Landmark Tour'. Well known for his gripping novels, written during a career of 30 years, Archer is now in Mumbai on a tour organized by the Landmark bookstore to promote his latest novel, 'Paths of Glory'.
Besides the excitement of what's in store for readers in his latest work, Archer fans will certainly be excited about the release of the reworked 'Kane and Abel'.
Archer fans will be excited to learn that the author has re-written Kane and Abel, one of his most popular books. It will be out on October 3. "I wanted to look at it after 30 years and I thought maybe I'll put a tweak here and a tweak there,'' the 69-year-old said.
Speaking about the re-worked version of 'Kane and Abel', he said, "The new Kane and Abel will come out on October 3. We will announce the book's release in Britain the day after tomorrow. It is because of what India did to my book that I wanted the Indian readers to be the first to hear about it."
Initially Archer thought 'Kane and Abel' would take two or three weeks to 'tweak'. Instead, it took him 500 hours spread over nine months to re-work the text. "The plot hasn't changed,'' Archer explained. “But I think it's better crafted now after 30 years of writing.''
During the launch of his new release, 'Paths of Glory' Archer explained the plot of the book. He said "Paths of Glory is the story about a man named George Mallory. He wanted to be the first to stand at the top of Mount Everest. He was last spotted about 620 feet from the peak. Whether he made it to the top we do not know. He said he would leave his wife's photograph at the top. When they found his body in 1999 and they took the wallet out, there was no photograph, so it is possible that George Mallory was the first to stand at the top of Mount Everest."
Jeffrey's agenda includes a search for an Indian director and producer, who Archer hopes will adapt this latest narrative to 70 mm. Interestingly the author has pinned hopes on the ‘Rang de Basanti' director Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra.
