Skoda has commenced production of the Skoda-Yeti hatchback-SUV at its plant in Kvasiny in the Czech Republic. The first Skoda came off the assembly line on 13 May 2009. The first Yeti produced is a 4 WD model that has been fitted with a 1.8L TSI petrol Engine.
Skoda could introduce the Yeti in India in year or two with a tweaked engine capacity to appeal to domestic consumers. With an expected price tag of around 10 lakh, it will be assembled at Skoda’s plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The company expects to import CKD kids from the parent plant.
Skoda Yeti’s engines will be fitted with turbochargers for greater responsiveness. The vehicle has a wider tyre tread with 180 mm of clear height. It offers low fuel consumption and CO2 emission values. The vehicle thus offers good environmental and economical value. It is based on ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, with inclusions such as the VarioFlex rear seat system. It has a compact wheel base of 2,578 mm and is a progressive and smart SUV. With dimensions of length 4,223 mm, width 1,793 mm, height 1,691 mm, it is easily possible to increase the size of the luggage compartment to as much as 1,760 litres.
