Although pollution-free electric scooters and bicycles have been available for a while; nothing on the market so far, has even come close to offering bikers the true experience of biking.
The newly launched Zero; an electric motorcycle from California may be about to change the notion that electric bikes lack style. Neal Saiki, the founder and inventor of Zero motorcycles, has manufactured the Zero S, an electric street bike with astute styling and excellent acceleration.
He hopes to make half the sales in Europe where he launched the bike. Talking to Reuters he said "People have waited decades for these things to be practical." He added "We make every part of the bike. It is very light, half the weight of a normal motorcycle." On a test ride one realizes that the Zero is nimble and easy to ride. He also said "We've had people put their motorcycles in their living rooms".
The bike runs silently which can be alarming at times and if most electric vehicles are the motoring equivalent of muesli, this bike is certainly more like a martini. However one of the Zero's limitations is its range. It will do between 40 and 60 miles on a single electric charge.
