The latest news on the internet indicates that future touch screen handsets from Nokia will feature capacitive screens compared to the existing resistive ones. The resistive screens have been used in the company’s flagship Nokia XpressMusic device. However, according to rumors, this phone could be fitted with a capacitive screen as well.
The company will use the Synaptics’ touchscreen IC solution for its forthcoming handset. It is also possible that the company could use multi-touch capabilities in the upcoming phone.
Further, according to Taiwan IC designers, the company will procure related modules and glass from other manufacturers. Further, it was revealed that other producers like Samsung Electronics, High Tech Computer (HTC) and Research in Motion (RIM) also get their touchscreen ICs from Synaptics.
It has further emerged that Nokia has placed orders for 3.5 inch TFT-LCD panels for its Nokia N97 high-end mobile phone with TPO Displays. At the same time, another panel maker Wintek could start supplying Nokia with capacitive touch panels. Though details are not available, it is also known that Wintek is the supplier of resistive touch panels for Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic.
Though Nokia had announced that handset shipments could slow down a lot in 2009, it has started placing rush orders since March. It has also resumed product development projects. This change has led panel makers to expect more orders from Nokia. Further, according to industry sources, the company intends to launch new handsets during the second quarter of the year.
