Samsung’s SyncMaster 2033SW is a 20 in LCD monitor, which has a 1600x900 resolution, which is useful to watch videos shot in wide-screen on the PC without the intruding and unsightly black bars. With a 16:9 aspect ratio, a movie will fill the entire screen. However, it’s not the right device if you are looking forward to pair it with an Xbox 360 or other HDMI – enabled devices.

With a similar design to other Samsung monitors such as the Samsung SyncMaster 2333SW it has a shiny piano black bezel along with a transparent lower lip. Though it makes Samsung monitors look definitely appealing, but the SyncMaster 2033SW bezel is surely a bit larger and bulkier than what is actually required. With a flimsy stand, it doesn’t take much to make the monitor shake, as this may be very frustrating for bouncy typists or mouse-clickers.

The monitor has been provided with DVI and D-Sub VGA ports. However, it noticeably lacks in audio and HDMI inputs. The 5 ms refresh rate displays games without ghosting. It also allows good display of fast motion videos. It also has good contrast and colour reproduction. The dynamic contrast ratio is 15,000:1 with a slightly less static contrast of 1000:1.

The monitor features good black levels, with ability to display darker areas during games and high-definition video playback. No significant flaws were detected in the image quality of the monitor with DisplayMate tests.  While the sharpness was spot on, the monitor quickly lost colour and contrast with alteration in vertical viewing angles. However, this was not the case with horizontal viewing angles, as there was no significant colour shift till an unreasonable angle was reached.

The lack of HDMI input and in-built speakers is disappointing, but the Syncmaster 2033SW is a good choice for viewing high definition content because of its superior image quality.
