Recently, Mr, Murthy, founder of the prominent company Infosys, had traveled to Singapore to launch a book. As amongst India’s most well-known businessmen, he said that India needs to improve the accountability of its political system for the country to move forward.

His comments came in as the country was in the process of holding the world's largest democratic elections. Infosys is listed by Nasdaq, and currently employs about 100,000 people in 22 countries. However, Mr. Murthy himself lives in a three-bedroom house and drives a 1.5-litre Opel Astra. He is not fond of television or parties.

His idea of serving his community was to become an entrepreneur as a young man. He believes that Singapore minister Mentor Lee is his hero.

"Singapore is a real example of a country that has transformed herself from a third world country to a first world country in my own lifetime. All in, an environment of peace and harmony in a multicultural world, thanks of course to a cadre of aspirational and value-based leadership which has indeed led by example," he said.

Mr Murthy added "Singapore serves as a great example for all countries, both developing and developed. I'm so happy that my hero, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, is releasing the book here in Singapore."

Some of Mr. Murthy’s views are detailed in his book titled "A Better India: A Better World", which Minister Mentor Lee launched on Monday. According to Mr. Lee, the limitations in the Indian constitutional system and the Indian political system prevent it from going at high speed. He said that he did not realize it until they engaged India closely. Since then they have comprehended that the political leadership must go through a very complex system at the centre, and then even a more complex system in the various states to achieve anything concrete. He also commented that the amount of work that is on the shoulders of these Ministers makes it necessary for each man, or each Minister to be like Mr. Murthy, who is surely a rare individual today. According to Mr. Lee,  as Indians proceed with a tempo dictated by their constitution, their ethnic combination, and their voting patterns, which  makes up the resulting coalition governments, this results into a very difficult situation for decision making.

Earlier Mr. Lee had commented that India needed political leaders like Murthy, however Mr. Murthy acknowledged that he had no political ambition.
