Despite the slowdown in sales, Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL) is keeping its fingers crossed on the forthcoming months. New launches are slated for the future which includes two international brands namely Kawasaki and KTM. New bikes in the premium and executive segment will be launched in the next 12-18 months.
Bajaj Auto Limited initiates its rollout roster with an all-new XCD 135 DTS-Si bike, priced at Rs. 45,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) in the fast-growing executive segment. The company will also be launching a mid-segment as well as an upper entry-level bike with prices ranging between Rs. 30,000-Rs. 50,000 along with a scooter.
Rajiv Bajaj said that the ultra-low-cost car, which is in the making jointly with French major Renault is on schedule and will be launched along with the Lite cargo truck; also under development, in 2011. Media reports indicate that along with two new platforms for a bike, the BAL is also keen to ramp up its output in China to cater to the overseas markets.
Bajaj Pulsar brand will also be launched with modifications in the exterior body and engine. Recently, Bajaj unveiled the new 2009 Pulsar 150 DTS-I and 180 DTS-i. The all new range offers unique feature with sportier styling to augment the company’s dominant position in the premium segment. The 150 DTS-I has prices at Rs. 59,580 while the 180 DTS-I is priced at Rs. 63, 148, ex-showroom India.
Bajaj is likely to launch some bikes from the KTM range like the 690cc Duke, which may be assembled at Bajaj's plant at Chakan. It is powered by a high-tech single-cylinder engine. The 690 Duke is a versatile, lightweight sportsbike, which might be priced at about Rs. 3.5-4.0 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. Bajaj may also bring in the RC8 and RR, which is presently under KTM’s stable. They are also manufacturing two bikes with engine capacity above 125cc with KTM that will hit the market next year.
Kawasaki has plans to bring in its models in the Bajaj dealer network by 2009. The Pune-based company will first launch the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, to be priced around Rs. 1.75-2.0 lakh, ex-showroom India. The company said the Kawasaki Ninja will be introduced as a completely-built unit. Kawasaki Ninja 250R bike is renowned for its splendid combination of power and fuel efficiency. Kawasaki Ninja 250R can be considered to be an entry level sports bike although it can pass off for a good street bike as well.
