Though a small cell phone or a pocket MP3 player does not seem as if it could be a power guzzler, as they just need an occasional recharge, a recent research shows that the current rate of usage could turn these gadgets into massive overall power guzzlers in the coming decades. At the moment, most devices are good for about a day or two of usage, gadgets and computers consume approximately 15 percent of all household power.
According to the New Scientist, this figure is increasing in an unprecedented manner. So, harmless devices like these could create many problems by consuming three times more power by 2030 than what they use now, it their unabated pace continues.
Though trying hard not to sound paranoid, the report mentions that the consumption rate could be controlled by the use of adopting efficient power management techniques, better quality equipments ad gadgets. By this, the gadgets could consume power efficiently rather than increasing the power they consume. The study anticipates that regulations would be put in place for charging devices, at a point where most power loss and consumption takes place.
