Tata Motors appoints PM Telang as MD, India operations

Tata Motors today announced that Mr. Ravi Kant, the Managing Director of Tata Motors, will retire from his Executive position on June 1, 2009, on reaching the retirement age of 65 years as per the Company’s policy.  The Board of Directors of the Company has decided to retain Mr. Ravi Kant on the Board as the Non-Executive Vice-Chairman of the company.

The Board has also decided to elevate Mr. Prakash M. Telang, the current Executive Director (Commercial Vehicles), as the Managing Director – India operations effective June 2, 2009.

Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company, with revenues of US$ 8.8 billion in 2007-08. Through subsidiaries and associate companies, Tata Motors has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand and Spain. Among them is Jaguar Land Rover, the business comprising the two iconic British brands. It also has an industrial joint venture with Fiat in India.

With over 4 million Tata vehicles plying in India, Tata Motors is the country’s market leader in commercial vehicles and among the top three in passenger vehicles. It is also the world's fourth largest truck manufacturer and the second largest bus manufacturer.
