Nivea, L’Oreal and other global FMCG together with domestic companies Dabur and service providers like VLCC are all expanding their business in the Men Cosmetic segment.

VLCC Managing Director Sandeep Ahuja says,” In the last three-four years, the Indian male grooming market has been growing at a very consistent pace of about 20 per cent. And considering the kind of awareness men now have in taking care of themselves, it will only grow”.

‘Fuel For Men’ a brand of VLCC in association with Elder Healthcare consists of a range of male grooming products and is also planning to expand the portfolio as soon as possible.

The Indian male grooming market is growing faster than the global cosmetic market, as per the industries estimate, the Indian male grooming market is around Rs 750 crore(excluding shaving gel and brush).

The global cosmetic market is growing at a rate of 18 per cent approximately and is estimated to be around Rs 6000 crore, said Ahuja.

This market has the potential to grow at the rate of 30-40 per cent, said Shoma Ghosh, the marketing head of Nivea India

She added,” We see a lot of potential in the market with the changing attitude of men towards beauty products. The market is growing at a rate of 30-40 per cent annually and could keep growing at the rate”.

Ahuja agrees to Shoma Ghosh and remarked, “Even when we look at the services sector, the number of male customers visiting our centres has increased over the last few years. Now our male clients account about 35 per cent of the total clients, up from 15 per cent we earlier had”.

With the addition of big players like L’Oreal, Nivea in the Mens cosmetic segment, competition is increased and thus will help in expanding the market on a later stage.

Shoma said that it is good that big players are also venturing into the male grooming market. It will only help expand the size of the market.

‘Nivea for Men’ range is expanding in the male grooming segment by Nivea and it is one of the focus for this fiscal. ‘Nivea for Men’ will launch more products in the next week that includes face cream and cleansing lotion. 'Powerlight' range of male fairness products is sold currently by L’Oreal under its brand name Garnier.

FMCG major Dabur a national company is expected to beat the sector, post completion of acquisition of Fem Care Pharma on top of all multinational runners.

A company official said that,” Male grooming is an exciting market and Dabur India plans to tap this segment with a range of products”.

The official added to it,” At present, Dabur has limited presence in the male beauty care market. It had gained entry by way of Saka male bleach following the acquisition of Fem care Pharma last year”.

Even Bollywood stars play a major role in marketing various products.

Long Ago, it begun with the hot shot Shah Rukh Khan endorsing Emami's Fair and Handsome, currently Bipasha Basu and John Abraham has became the brand ambassadors.

Basu has been a great entertainer and an elegant ambassador for FA's deodorant brand 'Fa Men Xtreme', at the same time Abraham has been a brand ambassador for Garnier Men.
