Tata Motors Chairman said that Tata Motors hopes to offer the Nano, dubbed the world's cheapest car, in the United States within two years of short time span.

Ratan Tata proudly said to the panel at the Cornell Global Forum on Sustainable Global Enterprise last Wednesday, “It will need to meet all emission and crash standards and so we hope in the next two years we will be offering such a vehicle in the U.S.”
In 2011, Tata Motors are planning to launch a European version of the car, which will cost about $2,300.
After looking at the people with motorbikes and scooters passing on the Indian streets with their children on board, an idea was clicked in the mind of Tata to make a car that poor people could also afford.
Tata Nano is a four-seater car. Tata Nano has a mileage of 65 miles per gallon (28 km per liter). Nano is a low cost car as it has a cheap labour.
“Tata Motors was also working to develop cars that run on fuels other than gasoline such as clean diesel, biofuels and batteries,” said Tata.
January 2008, was the date when Nano first came to the showrooms, though its production was beheld due to a protests over land use where a plant was to be located. The car will be available through a lottery to the first 100,000 owners in India by July.
