Toyota starting 2nd Indian plant by 2010 end

On Tuesday, a top official said that Toyota India, a unit of Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp is about to start production at its second car plant by the end of year 2010. 

Managing Director H Nakagawa, told reporters at the launch of its new Land Cruiser, “Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd, which offers the Innova utility vehicle, Corolla and Camry sedan in India, hopes to sell more than 50,000 units in the country”. 

He said that, “We would like to maintain what we did last year”. Last year Toyota sold 51,500 vehicles in India

Toyota holds 89 per cent in the Indian venture, and has a factory in Karnataka which has an annual production capacity of 60,000 units.  

Toyota India’s second plant in same state is coming up at the cost of $680 million will have a capacity of 100,000 units a year.
