Now, you can even charge your mobile on the way without the electricity with sunlight.

‘Solar Guru’ world’s first solar-powered mobile phone introduced by Samsung that enables users to charge the battery anywhere the sun is shining, if they are in far-flung areas where there is erratic or even no power supply.

JS Shin, president and CEO Samsung southwest Asia said on Wednesday, “We have developed this phone keeping in mind the needs of the consumers, especially for people in areas where electric supply is unstable”.

Samsung will launch the phone in market in the mid-June under the company's low-cost `Guru' series, at a price of Rs 2,799.

“The phone has been developed for India and will be manufactured in India from next month at the Noida factory. Initially, the phone is being imported from Korea”, said Sunil Dutt country head Samsung mobile division.

Samsung’s Solar Guru has been developed taking into account consumers insights where a user from the remote areas can stay connected with family with an affordable mobile which withstands harsh rural environment and serves as an alternative to landlines, where electricity is a challenge.

After the launch of Samsung Guru, Farooq Abdullah, Union minister for new and renewable energy said that “We need to extend the God-send energy options to many such applications which will benefit people where there are no landlines or power. Solar power is being used increasingly for telecommunications, communication systems, street lighting, in homes and by hotels".

With an hour of solar charging when the handset is turned off and sunlight has adequate intensity, the hybrid solar recharge phone delivers around 5-10 minutes of talk time. With about 40 hours of solar charging the battery will attain full power.

Dutt said, “Solar charging can give you enough time to make few important calls when there is no electricity or you are not close to a plug point”. That’s not all. Extension of technology might be seen in high-end phone. By the fourth quarter of this year, Touch screen phones like `Blue Earth' may soon be launched with the solar-power feature in India

Earlier this year, In Barcelona at the World mobile Congress 2009, Samsung revealed the solar powered touch screen phone Blue Earth.
