Jodha Akbar, Ashutosh Gowariker's historical romance, in true Oscar style took away the
International Indian Film Acadmey (IIFA) awards 2009 here Saturday with a perfect 10 bag of trophies that includes the best film and fetching its male lead Hrithik Roshan the best actor award and Ashutosh Gowariker the best director award. 
Priyanka Chopra was admired with the best actress award for essaying the trials and tribulations of the style industry in “Fashion".
Kangana Ranaut was awarded for the best female in a supporting role for her performance as a down-in-the-dumps model in "Fashion", while Arjun Rampal swept away the award for best male actor in a supporting role for playing an unsuccessful and brooding musician in " Rock On! "
Abhishek Bachchan walked away with the best comic actor trophy for his performance in "Dostana" and immediately dedicated it to wife Aishwarya Rai and ailing Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
The best actor in a negative role award was dedicated to Akshaye Khanna for "Race". Anil Kapoor received the award as Akshay had to leave for some personal work. IIFA best story award went to Neeraj Pandey for his critically acclaimed "A Wednesday".
Veteran Rajesh Khanna was given the lifetime achievement award; "Lagaan" was announced as the best movie of the decade. Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai were declared as the male and female actors of the decade respectively. Rakesh Roshan received director of the decade award and double Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman was honored with the composer of the decade award.
These set of awards were meant to commemorate 10 years of IIFA awards.
Rahman also derived the best music director award for his compositions in "Jodhaa Akbar". Gowariker received the award on behalf of the music maestro as he couldn’t attend the event.
Javed Ali received the best male playback singer award for crooning "Jashn-e-bahaara" in "Jodhaa Akbar", while the best female playback award went to Shreya Ghoshal for "Teri ore" in hit romantic comedy "Singh is King".
Javed Akhtar, the well-known Bollywood writer was honored with the best lyricist award for penning the song "Jashn-e-bahaara" for "Jodhaa Akbar".
IIFA brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law, Aishwarya was adorned with a special award for an outstanding achievement in international cinema.
Farhan Akhtar, Director-turned actor was awarded for the best male debutant of the year award for "Rock On!”, while best female debut award went to Asin Thottumkal for action thriller "Ghajini".
Maximum technical award at IIFA was received by "Jodhaa Akbar"
Neeta Lulla, ace designer took away the best costume design award for "Jodhaa Akbar", while Ballu Saluja got the best editing trophy and Nitin Chandrakant Desai got the best art director award for the Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai starrer historical romance. Madhav Kadam received the Best Make Up award for the same movie.
An Oscar winner who created history with his work in "Slumdog Millionaire", Resul Pokkutty, bagged sound recording trophy for "Ghajini" starring Aamir Khan.
Jason West bagged the best cinematography award for "Rock On!" and Farah Khan took away the best choreography award for the song "Desi girl" in "Dostana".
Farah and Jason were not present at the event, among the winners in the technical category.
