People close to the development disclosed that the company will launch the new Pulsar 220cc model on 23 June and will price it around Rs70,000 (ex-showroom in New Delhi). Firstly the development of the fuel injection technology was done on a smaller engine on its flagship model Pulsar by Bajaj Auto. The latest fastest running bike will have a top speed of over 140km per hour (kmph), almost 15kmph more than its predecessor.

The latest model of Bajaj Auto will compete with India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd’s R15 and FZ16 models; moreover, it is priced much lower than its predecessor, which was priced close to Rs 85000.

In India, the demand for sports bikes (Rs 65000-plus) is around 15,000 units per month. Around 1500 units of R15 model is sold by Yamaha.

The company is targeting one-third of the market to strengthen its leadership position in this segment, says people familiar with Bajaj Auto’s plans. Bajaj Auto will also start exports to some international markets, including Sri Lanka, Colombia and Indonesia, they say.
