Gentex Corporation, the leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the worldwide automotive  industry, has announced that it is shipping auto-dimming rearview mirrors with its Rear Camera Display (RCD) feature that will be available on the 2010 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia.

The Tundra is sold in North America and the Sequoia is available in North America and Gulf Coast countries including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The Gentex RCD Mirror is offered as optional equipment on all Tundra trim levels and is standard on the Limited Sequoia trim level. In addition, the Tundra and Sequoia continue to offer Gentex interior auto-dimming mirrors with features including compass which utilizes Gentex's proprietary Z-Nav technology, a highly-accurate sensor that determines the vehicle's directional heading, and a universal garage door opener. Both vehicles also offer exterior auto-dimming mirrors with turn signal indicators on various trim levels.

The RCD Mirror contains a liquid crystal display (LCD) that works with a video camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle to provide a view directly behind the vehicle while backing up. When the vehicle is shifted into "reverse," a display appears automatically through the auto-dimming mirror's reflective surface. The display disappears when the vehicle is shifted into any other gear, a capability that is made possible utilizing Gentex's "transflective" coating and lighting techniques, which result in a bright, high-resolution color image.

"Rear view camera displays continue to gain in popularity and we're excited to be working with Toyota in offering this feature for two additional vehicle models," said Gentex Senior Vice President Enoch Jen. "The mirror is an ideal and intuitive location to display rear camera video because it allows the driver to view the display and the reflected scene simultaneously."
