Tata Motors has put on hold most of its future product development plans. Tata Motors has delayed several products that were on the drawing board by 6-8 months and will make some of them get going depending on both the larger economic scenario and its own financial health. “Only those product development plans had been put on hold or postponed that were on the drawing board stage for the future”: wrote a Tata Motors spokesman in an email response to ET Now.
Apart from the future new products, Tata Motors had also planned an Indica refresh as well as a car positioned above the Indigo. Both of them are now on the back burner, say two people with direct knowledge of the matter. Though the company calaims that no announced products are on hold, including the crossover (Indicruz). There is no Indica refresh planned.
The new Tata Indica Vista is not even a year old. The only car above the Tata Indigo that has been showcased is the recent concept car, Prima, which was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show this year. It remains a concept and has not been announced as a new car programme,” the company spokesman added.

Due to the current demand scenario both in the car and truck market, the product freexe is partly. In the 2009 year end Tata motors has domestic passenger vehicle sales of 207,512 units, down nearly 5% over 218,055 units of previous year. But the truck and bus sales were down 15% to 265,373 units compared to previous years 312,935 units. Even in the first quarter of current year the tally remains unimproved on a large scale.
