Nissan Motor India gives the inland transport contract to Mitsui

MOL (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.) is a Japanese transport company whose main area of operations is international shipping. All around the world its alligator logo is visible on the containers in ports. The company was founded as a key part of the Mitsui zaibatsu (family-owned conglomerate) during the early industrialization of Japan, now is independent of the zaibatsu, but still remains part of the Mitsui keiretsu (group of aligned companies).

Mitsui Osaka Shosen Kaisha (O.S.K.) lines has declared that the company has received orders for inland transport and yard operation of completed cars for export from a new Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. plant in India.  Transporting the cars to the export port and yard operations at the port such as storage and preparation for loading are included in the contract.

In November 2008, the company launched MOL Auto Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd. and in April 2009 began inland transport of completed cars. From the MOL’s reputation for superior performance in completed car transport throughout Asia resulted into the new order. In early 2010 the latest plant will start manufacturing and will export vehicles in late 2010 mainly to Europe. This new plant will also manufacture the vehicles for Indian market. 

MOL won contracts for inland transport and yard operation of completed cars for export for the new pant by bidding on overall vehicle logistics operations. In future it may lead to the ocean shipping. In Asia, the company working on expertise in completed car transport operations to offer safe, reliable services. 

"The move is a response to rising production capacity of completed cars for India's domestic market and export trades. Since export volume of completed cars from India is expected to increase, MOL established this company in Chennai to provide inland transport and export-related port services," describes the company's press statement issued a couple of months back.
