In the year 2001, the famous Titanic hero, Leonardo DiCaprio became the first celebrity to purchase a Toyota Prius, followed by number of stars including Cameron Diaz, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Aniston, Harrison Ford and Susan Sarandon. 

Very soon, Michael Jackson has joined the series of celebrities who thought ‘green’. Jackson has contributed a lot to the now famous “We Are The World” concert, as he was concerned about the nature and Earth and the challenges it was facing, like the poverty in Africa, the concert doled out around US$ 20,000 to buy an environmentally-friendly Toyota Prius car. 

Michael Jackson was 49 years old in 2007 when he bought this car from Beverly Hills' Sharper Image electrical shop. A great pop star who use to travel world-wide in planes and do shows which creates a considerable carbon increase in atmosphere thought it to be perfect to reduce the atmospheric pollution and help nature. 

Since 1997 from the debut, the Prius is present globally. More than 1.25 million units are sold of Prius by Toyota  and more than 400,000 units of its other hybrids as of 2009. The Japanese carmaker, with an 80% share in the global hybrid market boasts it has kept as much as "nine million tons of carbon dioxide" out of the earth's atmosphere.
