Hyundai Motor India Ltd., the largest passenger car exporter and second largest car manufacturer in India, has been conferred the prestigious ‘Gold Trophy” for the year 2007- ‘08 in the category of ‘Large Enterprises’. The Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Anand Sharma bestowed the award to the H. S. Lheem, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, at a function organized recently in Mumbai by the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC).  

Receiving the award, H. S. Lheem, said, “For the past three years, EEPC has been recognising our accomplishments and awarding us for excellence in exports. I am delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious award as it showcases our relentless hard work and commitment over the years. This accreditation also displays our dedication and our resolve to make India the global hub for manufacture and export of small cars. We will continue to increase our footprints across different markets and ensure that Made in India cars are driven in all corners of the world.”

HMIL is aiming to increase its export levels and enhance its presence in Europe as well as non-European markets. In the first half of 2009, Hyundai so far has exported close to 170,000 units ( till August) and plans to close the year at around 300,000 units and recently it has added  42 new non-European countries as its export destinations.

HMIL, which is the largest passenger car exporter from India accounts for roughly 68% of total passenger car exports from India. HMIL started exporting with a batch of 20 cars to neighbouring Nepal in the year 1999 and in less than a period of ten years it has increased its export market to span over 100 countries across continents. HMIL, currently exports the i10, i20 and the Accent.
