M&M to launch new SUV

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is all set to launch all new Sports Utility Vehicle and targets foreign market. The company currently dominates the Indian market with its indigenously-built SUV Scorpio

Addressing a HR conclave in Chennai, organised by Great Lakes Institute of Management, Allen Sequeria, M & M, Senior Vice-President HR, said the new SUV would be rolled out in another 15 days. The company is all set to invest around Rs 700 to 800 crore in this project. 

The company is building its own new global brand for foreign markets after it lost Ford's Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) to Tatas. The name is not yet decided or no more details are yet revealed about the new SUV. Anand Mahindra, V-C and MD of M&M said that the Indian utility vehicle major was not worried over the JLR loss but rather set to compete with the SUV maker. The company is looking forward to foreign market, now. 

The new SUV will be manufactured at the company's Chakan plant in Maharashtra and positioned a notch higher than the flagship Scorpio, as per the reports from M&M. There are also rumouors that the new SUV might be a crossover of a vehicle derived from a car platform while borrowing features from a SUV.

Goenka said that the first vehicle would roll out with a diesel option while others like hybrid could follow later of the new SUV. It will also be launched in India with other foreign countries.
