The Japanese car maker, Nissan is all set to roll out its two new car models Teana luxury car and X-Trail SUV as part of its expansion plans in India. The company has already announced its launch on this Wednesday. 
Kiminobu Tokuyama, chief executive and managing director of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd said that, “India is the single biggest country in Nissan's investment plan in 2009”. More details about the expansion are yet to be revealed.
The Teana is fitted with a powerful 2.5-litre V6 engine and CVT transmission. The car engine produces 180 bhp and a 23.2 kgm of torque. The luxury car will be available between Rs 21 lakh (base model) to Rs 25.40 lakh (top end model, with dual sunroof and rear seat AC vents), ex-showroom Delhi.
The SUV X-Trail has the latest electronically controlled four-wheel drive system called the 4×4-I and good looks with wide space. The system gives better stability by analyzing data from a yaw sensor, steering sensor and a lateral accelerometer also features the Hill Descent Control (HDC) and the Hill Start Assist (HSA). The new SUV from Nissan consists a 1995 cc, 4 cylinder, inline DOHC engine, which is capable of delivering a max power of 149.6 PS or 110 kW at 4000 rpm, and a max torque of 32.7 kg-m or 320 Nm at 2000 rpm. The car boasts of water repellent interiors.
X-Trail is available in three different models called LE MT, SLX MT and SLX AT, and all feature the power steering option and power assisted brakes with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. The SLX MT model is available for Rs. 23.18 lakhs and the SLX AT model is priced starting at 25.08 lakhs.
Since Nissan began selling cars in India in 2004, it has only sold about 1,000 X-Trail vehicles, and just 300 Teana sedans, says reports. Nissan is targeting the India and China market as an emerging markets.
Currently, Nissan ships cars to India ready-made from Japan, incurring a 109 per cent import duty. The company is in plans to cost cutting.
By 2012, Nissan plans to expand its India product line from two to nine models, five of which would be manufactured in India, and ramp up its dealer network from five to 55 outlets, says the MD of Nissan.
