Maruti Suzuki has appointed actor R. Madhavan as the brand face for its super-popular hatchback WagonR. 
Maruti Suzuki said in a communiqué: Mr R Madhavan is a true personification of the WagonR brand. Brand WagonR stands for being Contemporary, Pragmatic, Intelligent, Leader-like, Balanced and Caring. All will agree that the same attributes stand true for Mr Madhavan as well. He will refresh WagonR’s values, strengthen the Brand further, and at the same time add youthfulness to the Brand. Mr Madhavan will be the Brand Face for WagonR. We welcome him to the Maruti Suzuki family.
WagonR, one of the top-selling Maruti Suzuki brands with average monthly sales of 12,000 units, is a market leader in its category with a customer base of 7.45 lakhs.
Before the actor was signed on, Maruti Suzuki’s consumer research on Madhavan revealed that he was a national celebrity with a skew towards the Southern parts of the country. Madhavan was subsequently considered a right fit after analyzing his future ventures/prospects and the brand objectives of WagonR.
Maruti Suzuki Chief General Manager Shashank Srivastava said, “Our research established that a famous face works well for a brand if both are just the right fit for each other. We feel that associating with a personality such as Mr Madhavan will certainly reinforce the brand values of WagonR with the TG at an all-India level. Additionally, the tie-up is going to give a boost to WagonR’s KPI (Key Performance Indicators) in key Southern cities such as Bengalaru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Cochin etc.”
“WagonR sales are outstanding across India. Going forward, we feel, the brand shall have an exceptional foothold in the Southern market as well. Given the popularity of Mr Madhvan in the South, the masses will relate to the brand more strongly with a local icon becoming the Face of the Brand”, he added.
Maruti Suzuki will be taking a new regional approach to marketing with this advertising campaign. There will be more focus on a regional communication strategy by having local language dialogues to reach out to the masses. This is the strategy to make the brand more relatable to its current and prospective users.
The WagonR TVC will be seen all across TV channels, while the campaign will be spread across Print and other ATL and BTL media. The creative agency for the campaign was Hakuhodo Percept.
