India’s largest car seller, Maruti Suzuki India has made up its mind to stop production of its popular model mid-sized sedan SX4.
Currently, more than 1,000 units/month of SX4 model are sold. The car gives a tough competition to its rivals Honda City, Fiat Linea. Maruti Suzuki`s SX4 is currently in compliant with only Bharat stage-III norms and the company has stopped its production in order to change the engine to be in compliant with the Bharat stage-IV norms. By 2011, around 11 cities of India have to upgrade to Bharat Stage-IV emission norms.
This up gradation will be accomplished in next 6-8 weeks and car will be re-launched. There are chances of even a little change in design.
Maruti Suzuki is also planning to launch a new model by this October but no details are revealed.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL, formerly Maruti Udyog Limited), a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, is India's largest passenger car company, accounting for over 50 per cent of the domestic car market.
Maruti Suzuki exports entry-level models across the globe to over 100 countries and the focus has been to identify new markets. Some important markets include Latin America, Africa and South East Asia.
