French car manufacturer Renault and Nissan are being best friends. As it’s very well said ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’, similarly Renault after a loss of $ 3.8 billion in the first half of this year, has decided to use the compact car platform of its partner, Nissan, to launch its compact car in India.

The company will be having a great savings as need not to invest or spend on any product development. Instead, both cars Nissan’s Micra and the Renault-Nissan compact car will be manufactured at the Chennai plant that is under construction and will have common production lines and component sourcing facilities.

This compact car is not the same low-cost car that the two companies have planned to manufacture together with the Indian motorcycle manufacturer, Bajaj Auto and was expected to be on roads by 2011.

Nissan is all set to hit 8,85,000 units a year domestic compact car segment with the launch of a five-seater compact car by the middle of next year and plans three products from the same platform by 2012. Renault India will use the platform of the same car to launch its own vehicle, which could either be a sedan, a compact car or both.

This will mark the first time in India that two manufacturers are using a common platform for two or more new cars for the same market. 

Experts say the move does not mean India consumers will have to choose between two similar cars from two different manufacturers as both the cars will be different.

Indian market is going great day in and day out with all new cars. Looks like roads will be flooded by next 10 years.
