“Life-long learning lays a cornerstone for successful career advancement,” says Dr. Werner Widuckel, Member of the Board of Management for Human Resources at AUDI AG, as he welcomes the first 40 Audi employees to participate in the new “Development for High-Flying Employees” program. He adds that ongoing education also requires considerable commitment, time, and money. The premium manufacturer is therefore actively encouraging particularly motivated staff members who wish to acquire additional vocational expertise.
Dr. Widuckel emphasizes just how crucial it is to Audi’s success to assist committed and highly competent employees: “We must think about tomorrow today – not only in developing our vehicles but also in training our staff. It’s the only way to ensure that our company maintains its future-compatibility and competitive edge in the long term.” This new training program for high-fliers will also target skills and know-how which are in short supply. Audi is expanding its training opportunities for technical fields. “This new development program offers Audi employees a whole new range of opportunities for career development and career advancement,” underscores Dr. Widuckel.
In addition to various subject-specific and interdisciplinary training measures, the program offers information sessions and networking gatherings as well as excursions, especially via the Audi Akademie. In addition, participants receive considerable financial support. Audi employees who attend courses full-time receive 500 euros monthly from Audi. For the duration of their participation, these staff members remain Audi employees as per a leave-of-absence agreement. Audi employees who study part-time or in addition to work are reimbursed for tuition and test fees amounting up to 6,000 euros as well as 10 work-exempt days. The length of employee assistance depends on the standard duration of given courses.
Employees receive assistance for a broad range of qualifications such as Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in technical and non-technical fields as well as certification as a technician or business administrator at an Academy of Management and Business. Program participants decide themselves whether they wish to participate full-time, part-time or in addition to working at Audi. “Furthermore, we help to facilitate thesis projects, internships or real-world projects in Germany and abroad – and assign a subject-specific mentor to aid each participant,” says Michael Groß, Head of Personnel Marketing at AUDI AG. “It’s important to us that personal contact with Audi is maintained for the full duration of the participants’ involvement.”
The “Development for High-Flying Employees” program was made possible by means of the “Training” employment agreement approved last year by management and employee representatives. “The Works Council believes very strongly in assisting and training all employees. Every investment in our staff’s expertise is also an investment in the future of our company and thus bolsters the site’s permanence and job security,” emphasizes Ingrid Seehars, member of the Works Council subcommittee.
In the years to come, many Audi employees in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm will have an opportunity to take advantage of this development program. Employees who wish to take part in the program must have earned above-average grades in their field of specialization or university degree program and must complete an interview with their superior and their HR advisor. Over 100 Audi employees have applied this year for a spot in the “Development for High-Flying Employees” program.
