German Luxury car manufacturer Porsche launched its solitary sedan Panamera on Tuesday in India with a price tag of Rs. 1.4 crore to Rs 2.05 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Panamera will be one of the fastest cars in India with a top speed of 282km per hour. The car was unveiled to the press and guests at Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, with a memorable audio visual tour of a vehicle that has set out to reshape the boundaries of performance motoring. The press launch was attended by Mr Christian-Matthias Schlaga, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany.

Panamera will be available in three versions S, 4s and the top-of-the-range Turbo. Panamera fits alongside the earlier ranges as Porsche's fourth nameplate. Porsche Cayenne Diesel is already a huge seller in the  Indian market. Porsche Panamera diesel edition will also be available. And the best part is Indian automobile customers prefer  diesel engines in their cars provided they can afford it.

The company’s official distributor in India, Precision Cars India plans to sell 50 Panameras in the first year. Already 13 cars are booked.

The car sports a 4.8-litre eight-cylinder engine and delivers 400 horse power and consumes 11.1 litre of fuel for travelling 100 km.

The Panamera is Porsche's first sedan after more than six decades of manufacturing sports coupes and will compete with models like the Maserati Quattroporte and Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Moreover, the company is expecting increase in sales in local market approximately 20% or more.
