Ford Motors is all set to make its position in Indian market in car segment. The company has decided to launch a new car in time period of every one year to one and a half year in India in order to increase the market share.
Michael Boneham, president and MD of Ford India here on Thursday indicated the same as well as informed, “We now have a market share of nearly 2% and we want to grow it significantly in coming years. Launching of new cars from the Ford stable, will play a crucial role in growing our market share in India”.
But there is no specification for the target they aim at in regards to market share, has still revealed that is planning to achieve a sales of 30,000 cars this year compared to 29,000 cars sold in calendar 2008.
The company has seen a 50% increase year-on-year basis as they achieved 3500 sales of cars in September this year. Moreover, the cars are exported from here to South Africa by the company. Last year company exported 4000 cars approximately and is expecting to maintain the same.
Ford’s foray into the Indian compact car market with Figo is expected by the first quarter of calender 2010 and the vehicle would be exported to Asia Pacific and Africa along with sales in India. The car will be competitively priced.
Ford India is investing $500 million in expanding production at its Chennai plant from 1 lakh to 2 lakh vehicles, apart from producing 2.5 lakh engines, both in petrol and diesel. The company has done all its homework before aiming the high.
