Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) is all set to launch the diesel version of its SUV Prado in Japan in December. The company is not satisfied with the sale of its petrol version. 

The company had made its position with the grand success of its model Toyota Fortuner.

And now is also about to launch the Prado diesel version in India as well but not with Japan may be after 5-6 months of its launch in Japan i.e. in around June 2010.

The company is looking forward for this decision in order to make its position more strong in SUV segment. 

The Prado diesel is expected to come with the same 3.0-litre D-4D turbo common rail diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The UK spec model produces 171bhp at 3,400rpm and maximum torque of 410Nm between 1,600 and 2,800rpm though India is not to be sure same as this. 

TKM desperately wants this SUV to be marketed in India sensing a steady growth of popularity for SUVs in India and is on the verge of wooing the parent company to bring the vehicle here to India. Seeing the popularity of SUV in India this decision seems to be good. 

Moreover, diesel version is expected to be sold more as the car will be costly but customers will save on fuel every time diesel being cheaper. Currently 50-60 petrol version cars per annum are sold by the company in India and expect this diesel version to be sold more.

The petrol version is available for Rs. 45 lakh approximately and diesel version of Prado is expected to cost little higher than this. Lets wait and see the exact price will know very soon.
