The cumulative production data for April-September 2009 shows production growth of 11.12 percent over same period last year.
Domestic Sales
Passenger Vehicles segment during April-September 2009 grew at 13.46 percent over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 14.75 percent, Utility Vehicles grew marginally by 3.47 percent and Multi Purpose Vehicles grew by 21.90 percent in this period.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment still registered negative growth at (-) 0.52 percent during April-September 2009 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered de-growth at (-) 18.95 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 19.54 percent. In Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment, both passenger and goods carrier segments registered de-growth with growth rate being (-) 15.42 percent and (-) 19.69 percent respectively.
Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 12.37 percent in April-September 2009. While Passenger Carriers grew by 20.23 percent during April-September 2009, Goods Carriers declined at (-) 10.95 percent.
Two Wheelers registered a growth of 15.68 percent during April-September 2009. Mopeds, Scooters and Motorcycles grew by 26.36 percent, 18.29 percent and 14.93 percent respectively.
Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles and Goods Three Wheelers remained areas of concern for the industry.
Exports
During April-September 2009, all segments except Passenger vehicles registered de-growth. Overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 4.41 percent.
Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of (-) 35.66 percent, (-) 4.96 percent and (-) 1.30 percent respectively during April-September 2009. Passenger Vehicles segment, however, grew by 34.29 percent in this period.
