Bajaj Auto Ltd is planning to raise the production of entry-level bikes by January 2010, on the back of buoyant sales witnessed after its re-entry in the 100 cc segment.     

Bajaj has seen a really rise in sales in the 100 cc segment after the launch of its model 'Discover DTS-Si 100' in July. Just within the three months of its launch, Bajaj bikes have seen a growth in the entry-level segment by 38.60 per cent to 207113 units from 149433 units in the corresponding period last year.  

Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) Chief Executive Officer (Two-Wheeler) Sridhar Bajaj told reporters, “Production per month (in the entry-level segment) is geared up for 85,000 units. Further increase in capacity will be in place by January”.

Bajaj, however, did not share details on production hike saying since November and December are generally lean months, the current capacity is adequate. Bajaj Auto has an overall motorcycle production capacity of 2.6 lakh units per month from its three plants at Waluj, Chakan and Pantnagar.

After the launch of Discover DTS-Si, Bajaj has been increasing its presence in the segment with 108,227 units in September this year. Before the launch of the new Discover, its sales in entry-level segment in June were 29,119 units only.     

With these figures in mind we can see that the sales are increased lot with this new 100cc bikes and therefore, the company has decided to increase its production. The results are going to be real worth while as from past result are good.
