Chrysler model Jeep Cherokee will be launched in India soon by the joint venture of the Tata Motors and Fiat. The Jeep Cherokee and many other models will be launched from the company’s factory in Ranjangaon near Pune as it seeks to expand its presence in one of the world’s fastest growing passenger car market.
Fiat currently makes the Linea and the Grande Punto at the facility. The Ranjangaon facility is also being used to produce Tata's latest sedan, Tata Indigo Manza.
Sources close to the development that chose anonymity said that Tata-Fiat alliance will initially start retailing the Cherokee and follow up with other products.
While Tata dealerships across India will showcase the new model in their showrooms, Fiat and Chrysler will play a strategic role in making the model available in India. Fiat had acquired 20-per cent stake in Chrysler recently after the latter filed for bankruptcy.
The JV of Fiat-Tata has raised raised $510 million through a multi-tranche syndicated loan, which includes a $200 million term loan for working capital requirements. FIAPL a 50:50 joint venture between Fiat Group and Tata Motors, manufactures Fiat and Tata cars and produces transmissions and engines.
The JV, which was set up in 2007, plans to invest close to Rs 4,020 crore at its Ranjangaon facility. Ranjangaon plant would be capable of producing two lakh cars, three lakh diesel engines, and three lakh spare parts and accessories per annum within next 3 years of time.
There is no commitment as of now by the Fiat Group Chief Operating Officer, Filverio Bonfiglioli regarding the possible launch of Chrysler brands. Lets hope for the best and quick launch of the new cars.
