With World on verge of environment cleaning and using pollution free vehicles Nissan, Japanese car maker, declared on 14th October Wednesday that it will consider launching electric vehicles in the Indian market within the next few years as part of its global plan to roll out cleaner and alternative fuel technology.

The company had already showcased three electric vehicle (EV) models and announced plans for a concept car at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show, today on 23rd October. Nissan, the part of French auto giant Renault Group said that it would mark its entry into the EV segment with launches in the US, Japan and European markets in 2010.

The latest EV announced at the Tokyo Motor Show by Nissan’s president and chief executive, Carlos Ghosn, will be a luxury Infiniti to complement (and probably borrow some technology from) the forthcoming 2011 Nissan Leaf.

Nissan Motor Corporation Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn said, “For now, I can tell you that it will be a compact luxury car, a stylish, high-performance four-seater with zero emissions”. He also cleared on asking if they are planning an electric car for India, “If there is a market, yes sure. There is absolutely no limitation for where the car will go.”

The company has its target market as Japan, US and Europe at the starting stage. Indian market is at a later stage due to lack in infrastructure as per Ghosn.

The company has plans announced plans for a new concept car.
