Toyota increases SUV Fortuner’s Production by 60%

Toyota’s recently launched Sports Utility Vehicle Fortuner has received an immense response from customers. Seeing the sales, the company has decided to increase the output of the vehicle by 60 per cent from January next year.

The Japanese car giant Toyota, which runs its Indian operations with the Kirloskar Group in a joint venture — Toyota Kirloskar Motors had initially planned a production of 500 units a month and will now increase the production to 800 units every month by  January next year. The reason for the modification for increasing production was the Fortuner making good sales. 

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director (Sales and Marketing) Sandeep Singh said at the ongoing Tokyo Auto Show here that the company had earlier planned to increase output of the SUV to 600 units every month by January next year.

TKM has sold around 1200 units of Fortuner whose introductory price Rs 18.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) since its launch in 24th August in India. 

The company has sold around 51,800 units of all of its models including Fortuner, sedans Corolla Altis, Camry and utility vehicle Innova and has a target of 53,500 units this year.

Toyota's hybrid plans for India include launch of Prius early next year.
