Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited (TKML) is planning to launch more models in India. The company is coming up with ‘Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle’ (IMV) line-up in the country.
This new car – the Avanza multi-purpose vehicle – is already on sale in Thailand, where it slots in below the Fortuner and Innova. The car, that is to be position between Toyota’s new small car and the Innova would be priced between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The price tag makes it cheaper than Innova but yes of course it will be smaller than Innova too.
Toyota, the parent company confirmed that the car would be launched in India on the sidelines at the Tokyo Motor Show. But more details are not yet confirmed.
The Toyota Avanza, which is smaller than the Innova and which is expected to be around 20-25% cheaper than its bigger cousin, will be fitted with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and will be offered as a five-seater vehicle. Toyota claims it is developing an all-new model, which should go on sale in the next two years.
There is another possibility ofcourse is an all new innova. Toyota has not revealed all details right now. The company has been evaluating certain models for India, including the Toyota Avensis Verso MPV for benchmarking purposes in the recent months.
In the meanwhile, TKM is also working on increasing production of the Fortuner SUV by 60%, from January next year because the Fortuner is doing very well in the country currently.
The news is still unconfirmed and just on basis of the rumors. So, wait for another 6 months or so for the confirmed news and new product portfolio in SUV segment.
